Special Needs Program

Sowa is home to a group of very special animals who have physical disabilities and congenital defects. Their resiliency and joy despite their challenges is incredibly inspiring to everyone who meets them. Each week we work with a group of adults with disabilities who come to the sanctuary to volunteer, learn about our rescued residents, and spend time with our special needs animals. This program is incredibly rewarding both for the animals and the program participants.

We are currently fundraising to build a wheelchair-friendly facility that will not only provide a safe space for special needs animals to live comfortably and have indoor space for their daily physical therapy, but will also allow us to expand our special needs program and welcome individuals with more extensive physical disabilities to spend time at the sanctuary for animal therapy, education, and volunteer activities. If you would like to help us bring this project to fruition, please donate to our GoFundMe below.
