Hans was rescued from becoming a religious sacrifice and arrived as an emaciated, terrified baby. With lots of time and specialized care he made a full recovery and has been living a full, healthy life at the sanctuary. During a particularly frigid and brutal winter Hans developed a life-threatening urinary blockage that required emergency care at the hospital. We created this blend to support his recovery and promote long-term urinary health and he has been thriving ever since. 

 This formula combines soothing, mineral-rich, and gently diuretic herbs to help support the body’s natural ability to flush grit and excess minerals and maintain urinary balance. Created for long-term, daily use, Hans’ Blend promotes healthy urine flow, hydration, and tissue integrity for goats prone to renal issues or those needing ongoing bladder and urinary tract support.

  • Given daily to goats with a history of renal issues such as kidney stones, urinary crystals and blockages, urinary tract infections, and cystitis
  • Pair with Virgil’s Vitality Blend and Sowa Seeds for a complete daily wellness system for goats needing urinary support 
  • Small breed goats: 2 teaspoons/day
  • Medium breed goats: 1 tablespoon/day
  • Large breed goats: 2 tablespoons/day
  • To get the most benefit from this blend, it’s best to prepare as an overnight infusion and mix with Timothy pellets to create a mash. The infusion can also be syringed for goats who are averse to mashes. 
  • However, if making an infusion is too labor intensive or you’re not comfortable with syringing, the blend can also be given via any of the other methods outlined in our herbal administration guide
  • This blend should never replace emergency care if a goat is experiencing an active urinary blockage. Please seek immediate medical care from a qualified veterinarian and then incorporate this blend during the goat’s recovery period and preventative care plan.
  • Ensuring adequate hydration, maintaining a proper calcium-phosphorus balance with goat-specific loose minerals, and feeding an appropriate diet that avoids high calcium foods including grain and alfalfa are the cornerstones of urinary blockage prevention. This herbal blend is designed to provide an extra layer of support after all those fundamental preventative measures have been taken.

Marshmallow:

  • Rich in mucilage that soothes and protects urinary tract protection

Corn Silk:

  • Reduces inflammation, burning and irritation 
  • Soothes the bladder and urethral tissues
  • Gently increases urine flow while protecting the tissue 

 Dandelion Leaf: 

  • Gently increases urine flow without depleting essential minerals 
  • Rich in potassium to help maintain fluid balance 
  • Promotes flushing of bladder sediment and grit 

 Nettle:

  • Rich in minerals to nourish and support the urinary system 
  • Strongly anti-inflammatory to reduce and prevent swelling and irritation 

 Plantain:

  • Supports bladder and urinary tract tissue healing to reduce inflammation from grit, crystals, stones or infection 
  • Soothing to irritated tissues
  • Antimicrobial 

 Goldenrod:

  • Gently increases urine flow to help flush out sediment

 Rosehips:
