Erwin was rescued from a neglect case after his herd was abandoned in the middle of winter with no food, water or proper shelter. Many of his friends and family passed away but thankfully he survived and we were able to nurse him back to health with lots of time, love and care. One of the issues he dealt with during his recovery was a significant parasite burden. We created this formula and used it alongside conventional dewormers to support his body in expelling the endoparasites and repairing his GI tract.

Formulated with ruminant physiology in mind, this blend not only supports parasite defense but also gastrointestinal integrity so goats can continue assimilating essential nutrients during periods of heavy parasite burdens. 

  • Part of a holistic parasite management program 
  • Can be given for 3-5 days every 6-8 weeks to preventatively keep parasite burdens low 
  • Pair with Tess’s TLC Blend and Dylan’s Defense Blend for a complete herbal support system in goats with a high parasite burden
  • Small breed goats: 2 teaspoons/day
  • Medium breed goats: 1 tablespoon/day
  • Large breed goats: 2 tablespoons/day
  • This blend is extremely bitter and most goats will not eat it willingly. We recommend mixing into dosage balls with molasses (see Herbal Administration Guide for details) or mixing with a small amount of water and molasses and carefully syringing the mixture, making sure to give slowly to avoid aspiration of the liquid into the lungs
  •  Erwin’s blend should not be used for more than 5 days in a row as some of the herbs are extremely potent and can cause liver damage if used long-term.
  • This blend is not safe for pregnant does, young kids, or goats with chronic digestive or liver conditions. 
  • This blend should not replace fecal testing and or be given as the sole deworming agent in a goat with a heavy parasite burden. We always recommend working with an experienced ruminant vet when dealing with parasite issues as they can be fatal if not treated properly. At Sowa Goat Sanctuary we use herbal remedies alongside conventional veterinary medicine for the best outcomes and health of our animals.
Ingredients:

Pumpkin seeds: 

  • Contain high concentrations of cucurbitacin compounds that decrease parasites’ ability to attach to the intestinal wall
  •  Rich in minerals that support GI tract wall healing and improve microbial balance in the rumen 

 

Garlic:

  •  Creates an environment in the GI tract that is unfavorable to parasite proliferation
  • Supports the immune system
  • Encourages healthy microbial growth 

 

Wormwood:

  • Contain bitter compounds that directly impair parasite metabolism and proliferation
  • Stimulates the production of bile, stomach acid, and digestive enzymes to help expel parasites when used short-term
  • Enhances absorption of nutrients in the short-term

 

Fennel: 

  • Contains volatile oils that disrupt parasite metabolism
  • Promotes digestive, liver and rumen health
  • Improves the quality of bile for healthy digestion

 

Marshmallow root: 

  • Rich in polysaccharides that gently coat and nourish the intestinal lining 
  • Promotes a healthy gut barrier
  • Supports healing from parasite damage to the digestive tract
